The Fatherees met in Venice Italy in 1986 when John’s U.S. Navy
ship pulled into port there and Gayle was visiting the city as a tourist.
The Navy later sent them back to Italy to live in the port city of Gaeta
for three years where they developed a taste for the wonderful
espresso coffee drink of that county. They have often talked of
bringing that flavor to America.
John a native of Austin, Texas, and Gayle, a native of Cleveland,
Ohio enjoy Rocky Mount, but always felt that the community could
benefit from a good coffee house - a place where people could come
alone or with friends, stay for five minutes, or linger for a few hours,
reading, playing games, or just enjoying pleasant conversation.
The decided that they would be the ones to bring such a
place to Rocky Mount.
After spending two years in Norfolk, VA and the following six years in
Japan, the Fatherees moved to Rocky Mount in 2000 when John
accepted a position teaching history at Rocky Mount Charter School.
Gayle also signed on there as a third grade teacherTheir three boys,
Alex, Jake, and Sean were also enrolled there. |
